Yann Ehrlacher (1st): “That was a great race! The start was crucial for us, and we knew it, so we had to nail it. As soon as we kept in the lead we made a big step towards the win, then it was not easy as Mikel was very quick behind and was chasing. Every time we were building a gap it was reduced to zero with the safely car, so we had to start again but at the end of the day the team gave me a very good car and we maximised it so it was good points we scored.”
Mikel Azcona (2nd): “It was a very tough race. I did the maximum of what I had. I knew before the race the only chance to win the race was at the start, so I did a super good start and then I tried my move in T3. I saw that the car was working perfectly, but I was not in the position to attack in T12 which is the only place to overtake. Anyway, I am happy with P2, which was the maximum we could achieve today. It’s time now to think about the 2nd race and to try and get some more points.”
Thed Björk (3rd): “That was a fantastic race for me. I started in P5 and did one pass on Girolami on the inside of the start... I was just on it because I knew that I wanted to take Norbie as well so I did some really nice breaking. I overtook him and then I was trying catch Mikel and Yann but there was no pace. They were clearly faster, so I am really happy with the 3rd place.”
Pedro Cardoso (1st in TCR South America): “I am really happy as we had it coming for a while. I had three pole positions and no wins so far but thankfully we have this win today and I think now we will try to capitalise. For the second race we will start second on the grid, but I am not going to try and fight for the overall win because we just don’t have the pace for it. I am going to focus on trying to get another win in the South American Championship.”
