Thed Björk missed out on the 2024 Kumho FIA TCR World Tour title in the series finale at Macau, but the Swedish racer believes the year was his strongest in the TCR era and hopes to carry the momentum into 2025.
The 43-year-old took the fight to Norbert Michelisz all the way to Macau, taking his first pole position since Zandvoort in 2019, and converted it to victory in Race 1, but couldn’t make enough progress in Race 2 to overcome the points deficit to the Hungarian.
Ever since June, the four-time Scandinavian champion has been on form, emerging as the most consistent scorer from the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing squad.
“For the last part of the season, since the USA, I’ve found the feeling and the sweet spot in the car - and it feels like 2017 again,” said Björk.
“My form has been fantastic, and it’s been enough to get runner-up this year. Perhaps I found it a bit too late for this season, but to finish second in the drivers’ championship, I’m very happy with that. I can happily congratulate Norbi for winning the title, as I tried my best. In Macau they had the upper hand on Sunday, they didn’t do anything crazy so from me it’s big respect.”
